Day 15 Update

Dear Ones in Christ,

Slidell: TV can hardly do justice to the conditions in southern Louisiana. This past weekend marked my first personal view of post-Katrina Slidell, and in spite of two weeks of cleanup since her arrival, devastation is everywhere. Every street we visited, every neighborhood, every house has a mountain of debris on the curb. Everything from cut up trees to flood damaged furniture, clothes, and household belongings. The smell that can only be described as a combination of swamp, sludge, sulfur and sewage has abated, but still lingers. The Christians, battle weary but persevering, are upheld by your prayers. They are reminiscent of Gideon and his men, "faint, yet pursuing" (Judges 8:4).

The Lord's Supper for the Slidell Bible Chapel believers was held in Wayne & Kim Fisher's home, one of the minority of homes that was not flooded. The fellowship was sweet, heartfelt, emotional. The Lord Jesus was uplifted, and believers were encouraged.

Belle Chasse: Belle Chasse is the home of Lake Park Chapel, the original meeting in the New Orleans area. Because it is south of New Orleans out on the "west bank", and in Plaquemines Parish, residents were not allowed to return until yesterday. Ray Cummings arrived home from Lafayette, LA today, and found conditions to be worse than he had come to believe. Last week some 24 saints from Lake Park and Sala Evangelica were being housed at Southside Bible Chapel in Lafayette, but now they have disbursed. Many thanks go to the gracious hospitality of the believers at Southside.

The Chapel and related buildings have all suffered some damage, but no flooding. It would appear that only one family from Lake Park suffered flooding in the home, and they will be able to stay at the guest house until future plans can be made. The southern part of Plaquemines Parish appears to be permanently under water.

Your continued prayers are coveted. Much physical work remains to be done. If you or your group desire to come help, please contact me at central.bible.chapel@juno.com, or 334-365-3374.
